Where to stay in Kaunas
The majority of available accommodations in Kaunas are located in the city center. You can select from well-established hotels, guest houses, and apartments/studios.
Renting a studio apartment, or a room at a guest house is often more cost-effective, as these are small privately owned establishments without reception and daily cleaning services.

A heads-up for private bookings

If you are renting accommodation from a private host, you may not meet them in person. Due to COVID-19, many places have installed keyboxes, and Lithuanians have discovered that self-check-in and checkout is more convenient for everyone. This means that you will likely communicate and receive the keybox codes through the chat on booking.com. Most hosts will also be available and responsive on the chat during your stay, especially on the day of arrival.

Don't be discouraged if your apartment is in a building that appears to be falling apart, despite the apartment looking new and modern in pictures. The building has been standing for a long time and will continue to do so. It's doing just fine even without a cosmetic touch-up :)

If the quality and firmness level of the mattress are extremely important to you, you might want to consider booking a well-established hotel (e.g. Radisson, Moxy, Ibis) and requesting a specific type of firmness for your mattress. The quality of such details fluctuates a lot within the private market and cannot be guaranteed. Most beds are completely fine for most people, but it is still Eastern Europe :)
